Synulox 50mg Palatable Tablets – Amoxicillin & Clavulanic Acid for Dogs and Cats

Synulox 50mg is a palatable oral antibiotic tablet manufactured by Zoetis for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections in dogs and cats. Also known internationally as Clavamox, each pink, round tablet contains 40 mg amoxicillin (as amoxicillin trihydrate) and 10 mg clavulanic acid (as sodium clavulanate), with a scored line for easy splitting.

How It Works

Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum semi-synthetic penicillin with rapid bactericidal action against many gram-positive bacteria (Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Corynebacterium spp.) and gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Proteus spp.), including beta-lactamase-producing strains.

Clavulanic acid inactivates beta-lactamase enzymes that would otherwise destroy amoxicillin, restoring the antibiotic’s effectiveness against resistant bacteria. This combination ensures broad, reliable coverage for a wide range of common veterinary infections.

Indications for Dogs and Cats

Synulox 50mg tablets are prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections including:

• Skin infections: Deep and superficial pyoderma, wound infections
• Soft tissue infections: Abscesses, anal sacculitis (inflammation of the anal glands)
• Dental and oral infections: Gingivitis, stomatitis, periodontal disease
• Urinary tract infections
• Respiratory infections: Upper and lower respiratory tract
• Gastrointestinal infections: Enteritis caused by susceptible bacteria

Dosage and Administration

Administer at a dose of 12.5 mg per kg body weight, twice daily. Tablets can be given directly by mouth or crushed and mixed into food — the palatable formulation makes them easy to administer.

Dosing guide for Synulox 50mg tablets:

• 3–5 kg body weight: 1 tablet twice daily
• 6–9 kg body weight: 2 tablets twice daily
• 10–13 kg body weight: 3 tablets twice daily
• 14–18 kg body weight: 4 tablets twice daily

For animals over 18 kg, consider the Synulox 250mg tablets for more convenient dosing.

Treatment duration:

• Standard infections: 5–7 days
• Chronic or deep skin infections: 10–28 days
• Respiratory infections: 8–10 days
• Chronic cystitis: 10–28 days

In difficult-to-treat cases, the dose may be doubled to 25 mg/kg twice daily under veterinary guidance.
