Synulox 250mg is a palatable oral antibiotic tablet manufactured by Zoetis for the treatment of bacterial infections in dogs. Also known internationally as Clavamox, each pink, round tablet contains 200 mg amoxicillin (as amoxicillin trihydrate) and 50 mg clavulanic acid (as sodium clavulanate), with a scored line for easy splitting. The 250mg strength is designed for medium to large breed dogs, providing convenient dosing without the need for multiple smaller tablets.

How It Works

Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum semi-synthetic penicillin with rapid bactericidal action against many gram-positive bacteria (Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Corynebacterium spp.) and gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Proteus spp.), including beta-lactamase-producing strains.

Clavulanic acid inactivates beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, restoring their sensitivity to amoxicillin. This powerful combination ensures reliable, broad-spectrum coverage for the most common veterinary bacterial infections.

Indications for Dogs

Synulox 250mg tablets are prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections including:

• Skin infections: Deep and superficial pyoderma, wound infections
• Soft tissue infections: Abscesses, anal sacculitis (inflammation of the anal glands)
• Dental and oral infections: Gingivitis, stomatitis, periodontal disease
• Urinary tract infections: Including chronic cystitis
• Respiratory infections: Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
• Gastrointestinal infections: Enteritis caused by susceptible bacteria

Dosage and Administration

Administer at a dose of 12.5 mg per kg body weight, twice daily. Tablets are palatable and can be given directly by mouth or crushed and mixed into food.

Dosing guide for Synulox 250mg tablets:

• 14–25 kg body weight: ½ tablet twice daily
• 26–35 kg body weight: 1 tablet twice daily
• 36–50 kg body weight: 1½ tablets twice daily
• 51–70 kg body weight: 2 tablets twice daily

For cats and small dogs under 14 kg, use the Synulox 50mg tablets for more accurate dosing.

Treatment duration:

• Standard infections: 5–7 days
• Chronic or deep skin infections (pyoderma): 10–28 days
• Respiratory infections: 8–10 days
• Chronic cystitis: 10–28 days

In difficult-to-treat cases, especially respiratory infections, the dose may be increased to 25 mg/kg twice daily under veterinary guidance.

Contraindications and Safety
