Tylosin Soluble Powder 50% (Tylan) – Macrolide Antibiotic for Poultry, Pigs & Dogs

Tylosin 50% WSP is a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic in water-soluble powder form, containing tylosin tartrate 500mg per gram. Commonly known by the brand name Tylan, tylosin is one of the most widely used antibiotics in poultry and swine production for the treatment and prevention of respiratory, intestinal, and systemic bacterial infections.

This 100g pack is ideal for backyard flock owners, small poultry operations, and dog owners treating chronic conditions under veterinary guidance.

What is Tylosin?

Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces fradiae. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and preventing bacteria from producing the proteins they need to grow and multiply. This gives tylosin a bacteriostatic action (stops bacterial growth) at normal doses.

Tylosin is particularly effective against:

  • Mycoplasma species — the primary cause of Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) in poultry
  • Clostridium perfringens — causes necrotic enteritis
  • Brachyspira hyodysenteriae — causes swine dysentery
  • Lawsonia intracellularis — causes porcine proliferative enteropathy (ileitis)
  • Various gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Corynebacterium, Erysipelothrix
  • Some gram-negative bacteria: Pasteurella, Haemophilus, Campylobacter
  • Spirochetes and Rickettsiae

Indications by Species

Chickens:

  • Treatment and control of Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum
  • Control of CRD associated with Mycoplasma synoviae airsacculitis
  • Aid in control of necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens
  • Reducing infection severity following stress from live vaccination

Turkeys:

  • Reduction in severity of infectious sinusitis associated with Mycoplasma gallisepticum

Pigs (Swine):

  • Treatment and control of swine dysentery (Brachyspira hyodysenteriae)
  • Control of porcine proliferative enteropathy / ileitis (Lawsonia intracellularis)
  • Treatment of necrotic enteritis and gastroenterocolitis

Dogs (Off-Label, Under Veterinary Guidance):

  • Treatment of chronic diarrhoea and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Tylosin-responsive diarrhoea — a recognised condition in dogs that responds specifically to tylosin
  • Colitis and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)

  2. Stir until fully dissolved
  3. Add the concentrated solution to the total drinking water volume
  4. Prepare fresh medicated water daily

Dosage by Species

Species Dose Duration
Chickens (broilers) 0.5g powder per litre of drinking water (250mg tylosin/L) 3–5 days
Turkeys 0.5g powder per litre of drinking water 2–5 days
Pigs (dysentery) 0.5–1.0g powder per litre of drinking water 3–10 days
Dogs (off-label) Consult veterinarian — typically 10–40mg tylosin per kg body weight daily As directed

Ensure treated animals consume enough medicated water to receive the full therapeutic dose.
