Clinical Information

Intended Animal Group:

Cats.

Usage Guidelines:

This veterinary medicinal product is formulated for managing mild to moderate post-operative pain and inflammation in cats, particularly after orthopaedic and soft tissue operations. It is also effective for relieving pain and inflammation associated with chronic musculoskeletal disorders in felines.

Do Not Use If:

  • The animal is pregnant or nursing.
  • The cat is afflicted with gastrointestinal issues, including irritation and bleeding, or if there are any signs of liver, heart, or kidney dysfunction or bleeding disorders.
  • There is a known sensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the inert components.
  • The cat is under 6 weeks old.

Special Animal Warnings:

There are none to note.

Precautions for Use in Animals:

Discontinue treatment if adverse reactions occur and seek veterinary advice. Use cautiously in animals with dehydration, low blood volume or blood pressure due to potential kidney risks.

After surgery requiring pain and inflammation management: Consider comprehensive pain management strategies if further pain relief is necessary.

For chronic musculoskeletal conditions: Regular veterinary assessments are advised to monitor responses to long-term therapy.

Precautions for Handlers:

People allergic to Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) must avoid handling this product. In the event of accidental human ingestion, medical advice should be sought immediately, and the physician should be shown the package or label.

Possible Side Effects:

The typical side effects linked to NSAIDs, such as reduced appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, occult blood in stool, lethargy, and renal failure, can manifest on occasion. These symptoms generally resolve once treatment ends, but in rare cases, they may be severe or life-threatening.

During Pregnancy or Nursing:

This product’s safety has not been established for pregnant or nursing cats (See Do Not Use If section).

Drug Interaction:

This medication should not be used concurrently with other NSAIDs, corticosteroids, diuretics, anticoagulants, aminoglycoside antibiotics or any highly protein-bound substances, as these combinations could be harmful. Avoid using any potentially nephrotoxic drugs.

Drugs with anti-inflammatory properties used before treatment may increase the risk of side effects; therefore, a washout period of at least 24 hours should be observed before starting treatment, depending on the previously used product’s characteristics.

Dosage and Administration:

For post-operative pain and inflammation: After initial treatment with meloxicam 2 mg/ml injectable solution for cats, administer an oral follow-up dose of Meloxidyl 0.5 mg/ml oral suspension at 0.05 mg/kg body weight once every 24 hours for up to four days.

For chronic musculoskeletal disorders: Administer a single oral dose of 0.1 mg/kg body weight on the first day, followed by a maintenance dose of 0.05 mg/kg body weight once daily.

Accuracy during dosage is critical, and the recommended amount should not be exceeded. A positive clinical response is expected within 7 days; treatment should be discontinued if no improvement is observed after 14 days.

Method of Administration:

Shake the bottle well before use. Administer orally, either with food or directly in the mouth, using the supplied measuring syringe according to the kg-body weight scale from 1 kg to 10 kg, correlating to the maintenance dose (twice this volume is needed on the first day).

To avoid contamination, maintain hygiene during application.

Overdosage Information:

Cats have a low tolerance for overdoses of Meloxidyl. Overdosing may intensify and increase the frequency of the side effects listed above. In such instances, begin symptomatic treatment.

Non-Applicable Withdrawal Period:

Not applicable, as this is a non-food animal product.
